The Idea

Do you ever close your eyes and transport yourself back to that one great game of Capture the Flag when your team strategized the ultimate attack plan and in one swift move infiltrated enemy territory to gain glory in record time?

No?

Maybe you were more of a Kick the Can individualist? or your underdeveloped rapping skills made you a sly Double Dutch rhymer? or your anger was expressed through a raucous game of Dodge Ball?

We forget about the multitude of FUN ways to get exercise and meet our neighbors, so we're giving a shout out to our childhood days and bringing back Recess!

The Rules / Urban Capture The Flag

To thwart the inevitable "but this is how I played it"
These rules are borrowed from our great northern cousins in Minneapolis, MN ::

Urban Capture the Flag is a throwback to your suburban mayhem, and way better.

TERRITORY
The territory is divided on two 'sides' by a street or geographical feature. Each side of theis street belongs to a team, but the street itself is neutral.

TEAMS
Each team is chosen at random by you grabbing a colored sash, there won't be any embarrassing 'last chosen' moments. The strips of fabric must be worn prominently.

STRATEGIZING
Each team is allowed 10 minutes to hide the flag and strategize. The flag MUST be in the open with at least 3 points of approach. No alleys, laneways, dead end streets or underground pathways. At the end of 10 minutes, a designated referee will call the team captains and play will commence. Cell phones will be used to keep up team communication.

GUARDING
You may have no more than three people guarding the flag within 100 feet, and they must stay at least 30 feet from the flag unless there is an attempted capture.

TAGGING
Players are safe on their home sides. If you enter enemy territory you can be tagged by an opponent. Tags must be made with TWO HANDS. If you are tagged you must return to the neutral zone and count to 10 before re-entering enemy territory. There are no jails.

CAPTURES
A point is scored when the enemy's flag enters your territory. When a point is scored, you must call the referee for it to count. They will in turn notify the team captains. The team with the most points at the end of the gaming time wins!

COST AND AGE
Always free and open to everyone who can play with the big kids. There will be possible family days where we get the kiddies out to throw down.
